La Rinconada beach is a quiet, hidden away surf spot at the base of a cliff. If you find your way to the Punta Rinconada headland, you can overlook the surf breaks, get a panoramic view of the Rinconada coastline, and witness glorious sunsets.
All around is lush tropical forest elevated 100-200 feet above sea level. This part of La Ruta Del Sol receives a lot of rain, and is more humid than other areas. The road winds thru the jungle with dense foliage either side, giving you occasional glimpses of the forest and the ocean.
La Rinconada is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 100 different species of exotic marine and tropical birds. There are a few hidden away homes, lodges and hostels – hard to find, even in daylight!
To get to the surf spot, you need a car, or its about a 40 minute trek from the main road. There are several tiny private beaches along the Rinconada coastline, mostly rocky with grey sand and coral fragments, but they are virtually inaccessible except by water, unless you really know your way around.
