| Witch Hill (Cerro Brujo) has a magnificent powdery white sand beach which is only accessible by boat.
At the north end of the beach is a lagoon and a point which is formed by the remains of an extinct volcano known as a tuff cone. The cone is eroding, and has lots of crevices and tunnels at sea level which you can ride through in a Panga (small boat). |
You can swim and snorkel here, in calm, crystal clear water among the shallow corals and you’ll see all types of exotic fish, sponge corals, anemones and possibly some sea turtles and rays. From the beach, Kicker Rock is in plain sight only 7 km away to the west, and you can also see it from inside the tunnels below the tuff cone, which makes for interesting photos.
Around the base of Witch Hill is a marvelous spot for sea-kayaking, and some tour companies offer it. If you’re the type that feels too restricted by organized tours, kayaking through the passages under your own steam, will restore some sense of adventure.
On land, you can take a gentle stroll down the beach which is only about 800 meters in length. You’ll likely find sea lions basking on the beach and a variety of shore birds, finches and mockingbirds on the beach and in the bushes and trees. You can walk freely anywhere on the beach, but in other areas you must stick to the path. For example you can explore the lagoon where you’ll be able to see lots of birds, and you can hike to a lake behind the beach.
