| Punta Carola has the best surf in San Cristóbal, perhaps the best in the Galapagos overall. It has 10ft waves on average at high tide, and offers consistent surf year round. Best of all, is the convenient location, visible from the wharf at Skipwreck Bay.
From the pier at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, you can see the surf conditions at the two closest surf spots: Punta Carola and El Canon. Then you can decide which is best. |
To get to Playa Carola you can get a boat taxi to drop you off for $1-2, or you can walk to it in 20-25 mins, around the bay and through the mangroves via a paved trail you pick up at the San Cristóbal Visitor Center (Interpretation Center). At low tide, this is a good spot for beginner surfers.
In addition to great surf, the beach at Playa Carola is not bad for sunbathing and snorkeling, however the shoreline has submerged rocks all along it (some exposed at low tide) which makes it mostly unsuitable for kids and elderly people.
