Another popular tour destination is the white sand crescent beach of Puerto Grande on the west coast of San Cristobal. It is often used as the second leg of day tour coupled with Kicker Rock which is located just 3.7 mi / 6 km due west, so you can get a great view of the rock from the beach.
The beach is only 200 meters wide and sits in a protected cove, which has beautiful scenery looking across a bay toward the main part of San Cristobal. Poking through the white sand are several patches of black larval rock, which is characteristic of several Galapagos beaches.
The water is calm and quite shallow, making it a fun, safe place to swim among the sea lions. Or you can simply walk and enjoy the sand dunes, marine birds, the flora and the views of Kicker Rock to the west and San Cristobal to the east.
Camping is also permitted with pre-approved permits from the Galapagos National Park Service (GNPS). It is also a nice place for kayaking.
