With numerous marinas along the coast, Ecuador offers plenty of sailing options, and is an obvious vantage point for voyages to the Galapagos or cruising the south pacific coastline. For daily adventures you can get charters for whale watching, coastal exploration and sunset cruises. At some beaches, you can rent a dingy or hobie right on the beach, or from the local yacht club. There is wind all year round, but the best sailing is from December to May when Ecuadorean waters are most calm.
The main sailing attraction in Ecuador is of course the Galapagos Islands, 500 miles west of the mainland. Island-hopping one of the most unique and diverse ecosystems in the world, is a breathtaking experience. There are live-aboard cruises for anything from 3 day to 2 weeks, or you can charter a yacht, and plot your own course!
